The Story Behind The Photo

Sausalito Diver

One day in San Francisco, I decided it was a fine day to take a walk. I mounted my Yashicamat on a small tripod, and headed for the pedestrian lane of the Golden Gate Bridge.

On the other side, I trekked down into Sausalito, had a leisurely lunch, and then walked over to the ferry landing to catch a ride home. While waiting, I noticed three or four teenagers on top of the pilings, sitting around and talking. Shortly, one stood up, walked over to the edge, and after a thoughtful pause, dove in.

So, I set up my tripod and camera, framed the scene, waited with cable release in hand, and this photo is the result.
