Railroads of Colorado

Family Road Trip 1951

Untitled photo

This is a collection of photos taken during our family trip to Colorado in the summer of 1951, covering July 30 through August 8 of that year.

Dad was such a railroad fanatic that, of course, our summer vacation focused on visiting as many Colorado railroads as possible. In retrospect, it appears our trip may have been motivated, at least in part, by news that the Rio Grande Southern was about to discontinue passenger operations. This made it our last chance to experience a breakdown on the Galloping Goose, which of course we did, but not before having enjoyed a disruption of our excursion on the Durango & Silverton due to a washout of the tracks.

I was happy to find that Dad noted the date taken of each of the slides, so they are sorted here chronologically, with a separate gallery for each day. As of September 2022, there are still close to one hundred photos yet to be added over the coming weeks.
